The global gravel peloton converged on Llucena del Cid this weekend, deep in the mountains of Castellón, for the Castellón Gravel Race, the European opening event of the Gravelking UCI Gravel World Series calendar.
The race once again confirmed its growing international appeal in its third edition, welcoming 838 riders from 40 different nationalities across five continents, underlining its status as one of the most attractive early‑season gravel events on the calendar.
In the men’s race, Romain Bardet launched a decisive attack to cross the line solo, claiming victory ahead of European Champion Mads Würtz Schmidt in second place and Mathijs Loman in third.
The women’s race saw Sofía Villafane, deliver a great performance. Villafane attacked clear to take a convincing solo win in Llucena, confirming her strong early‑season form ahead of Morgan Aguirre and Elena Hartmann.
