The second edition of the Safari Gravel Race in Kenya was again a tough edition under a bright sky with a sprint deciding on the men’s victory and a solo win in the women category.
In the men elite race, last year’s winner Hans Becking (NED) got away with local Charles Kagimu (KEN), Lukas Baum (GER) and Lukas Malezsewski (BEL) who built up a nice gap. In a tight sprint, it was Malezsewski who grabbed the win ahead of Kagimu and Baum after 111km. A first UCI gravel win for Malezsewski who already finished 4th and 6th in the Belgian and Monegasque legs in the series early in the season.
The female win was for Hailey Hunter Smith who finished solo. Also a first UCI win for the Canadian. Claudette Nyirahabimana from the local Black Mamba Development Squad got overall second and a win in her F19-34 category while Svenja Betz (GER) and last year’s winner Maddy Nutt (GBR) completed the women elite podium.
