The first edition of Giro Sardegna Gravel, part of a big cycling week of granfondos on the Italian island showed great courses in the Sardinian backcountry with also a part on the beach.
The battle of the men elite was decided in the last of three 41km laps where German Frederik Rassmann managed to break away from Austrian Alban Lakata to win with a tight 5 seconds gap in Orosei. Matteo Zurlo (ITA) finished third 1m35 after the winner.
The elite women victory was for Debora Piana who had a 14 minutes gap ahead of Carlotta Borello with Anna Oberparleiter as third for a complete Italian podium.
