Plomer and Maldonado deliver home victories

Argentina celebrated a landmark first: its first UCI gravel race, the Vuelta Altas Cumbres Gravel in Villa Cura Brochero, tackled a demanding 120km mountain route climbing from 900m to a high point of 2,270m. Joaquin Plomer took the men’s elite win in 3:53:54 (30.7km/h average), beating American Lance Haidet by 5:50. Argentina’s Germán Dorhmann rounded out the podium a further minute back.

The women’s elite race delivered another home victory. Carolina Maldonado won in 4:56:00 (24.0km/h average) and led an all-Argentinian top three, ahead of Fiorela Malaspina (+2:12) and Maria Laura Bugarin (+2:35).
