The first European qualifier event in the new Trek UCI Gravel World Series will take place this weekend in Millau (FRA), famous for its highest bridge in the world over the Tarn river and canyon.
Riders from 17 different nationalities have signed up for the event with Worldtour riders Niki Terpstra (Paris Roubaix 2014, Flanders 2018) and his teammate Geoffrey Soupe (Total Energies Worldtour team) as most famous participants at the start.
Riders can expect a challenging course over 130km with almost 2000m of elevation. The start has a short flat stretch, quickly followed by a 8km uphill section. Also the passage through the village of La Roque Sainte Marguerite after 30km is tough with a descent and climb to go over the La Dourbie river towards the military camp of Larzac. The last two kilometers are on asphalt with an average gradient of 5%.
The men over 60 and women over 50 keen on qualifying for Worlds have a shortcut halfway to finish after 92km.
