Mathijs Loman and Talia Appleton score most points halfway the UCI Gravel World Series season

The qualifying season for the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships is officially halfway complete! So far, 16 events have been organized, with 17 more on the horizon in the coming weeks. The Championships are set for October 11-12 in the Zuid Limburg region of the Netherlands, with races scheduled between Beek, Beekdaelen, and Maastricht. Course specifics will be announced soon.

Elite Category Standings

Elite riders are battling for crucial points that determine their starting order at the World Championships. The top 25 finishers in each qualifying leg earn points, ranging from 200 for first place down to 5 points.

Currently, Dutch rider Mathijs Looman (25) leads the men’s elite ranking with 580 points. He’s followed by Danish Magnus Bak Klaris and Australian Tasman Nankervis. The top 5 is rounded out by two more Australians, Mark O’Brien (fourth) and Brendan Johnston (fifth), who recently scored additional points in the Australian legs of the series.

Women’s Category Standings

In the women’s elite category, Australia’s Talia Appleton (19) holds the top spot with 560 points. She recently overtook German champion Carolin Schiff, who hasn’t added to her point total in the last month. Dutch rider Wendy Oosterwoud is currently in third, with German Jade Treffeisen in fourth and Dutch Geerike Scheurs in fifth.

These points will be added to the points won at the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships, plus 50% of the UCI points in road, MTB XCO, MTB marathon and Cyclocross.
