Marianne Vos takes 14th Worldtitle in epic battle with Lotte Kopecky

The Bolero 2024 UCI Gravel World Championships of Women Elite over a distance of 136km in between Halle and Leuven through the Forests of Brabaant was a battle between two of the topstars in women’s cycling : Marianne Vos (13 world titles in 3 different disciplines) and Lotte Kopecky (8 worldtitles in two disciplines).

Both riders got away halfway the race from a large group with European champion Lorena Wiebes left behind as last rider. Despite several attacks on the local lap over 47km through the Meerdaelwoud, the outcome was decided in a sprint finish. Vos, with a powerful surge near the 200-meter mark, overtook Kopecky to claim the victory.

Completing the top five were Wiebes, Puck Pieterse, and Romy Kasper, who engaged in a fierce battle for the bronze medal.

A 14th worldtitle in a fourth discipline for Vos at the age of 37.
