Gravel Tour Hlinsko is a new event to the Gravelking UCI Gravel World Series calendar taking place in Hlinsko, two hours east of the capital city of Prague.  The event took place for the first time in 2019 and has grown a lot in recent years.

Course

Hlinsko is a unique gravel destination set on the edge of the Pardubice Region, where the rugged Iron Mountains (Železné Hory) meet the rolling hills of the Žďárské Vrchy Highlands. Just a few kilometres away lies the scenic Vysočina Region, and the race route spans both areas, offering a truly diverse and challenging terrain.

Hlinsko has earned its reputation as a leading gravel hotspot, hosting major events since 2019, including the start of the Czech Gravel Championship on three occasions. Behind the scenes is an experienced organising team with over 30 years in professional sports event management, ensuring a world-class experience for every rider.  The start is located next to the multi-sport stadium near the city centre, where you’ll also find full race facilities – registration, showers, catering, and more.

Course Overview

  • Two loops:
    • Main Loop: 86 km (mandatory for all categories)
    • Second Loop: 43 km (extra for Elites and Age groups up to 49 years)
  • Riders entering the second loop will pass through the official start/finish corridor, adding to the excitement.
  • The total distance for the elite and younger categories is 129km while the older categories will have a 86km course.

Expect a dynamic mix of gravel roads, forest tracks, and rolling climbs – a true test of endurance and skill in one of Europe’s most scenic regions.

With a total elevation of 1577m for the full course and 1102m for the older categories, Gravel Tour Hlinsko is challenging with rolling hills and a highest peak of 774m above sea level in the first half of the race.  

HLINSKO

Hlinsko is a picturesque town in the Pardubice Region of the Czech Republic, located at the meeting point of the rugged Iron Mountains (Železné hory) and the rolling hills of the Žďárské vrchy Highlands. With a population of around 9,600, it sits at an altitude of approximately 582 metres and offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. The town dates back to 1349 and has a rich history as a trade route settlement, later becoming a centre for crafts such as pottery and weaving before developing into a hub for textile and dairy industries.

Today, Hlinsko is known for its charming historic centre, traditional timbered houses in the Betlém conservation area, and its proximity to scenic landscapes ideal for hiking, cycling, and winter sports. It is well connected by rail to Pardubice and Havlíčkův Brod, with airports in Pardubice, Brno, and Prague within easy reach. Historic & Cultural Sites

  • Betlém Village Monument Reservation: A preserved area of timbered houses from the 18th–19th centuries, part of the Vysočina Open Air Museum. Declared a folk architecture conservation area in 1995.
  • Town Hall & Fortress: The Renaissance town hall (1598, later Baroque style) and the oldest building, the fortress from 1413, are key landmarks.
  • Hlinsko Museum: Exhibits on local crafts, folklore, and history, including traditional costumes and pottery.
