Gravel Challenge Blaavands Huk offers racing on the beach

The first edition of the Danish UCI Gravel World Series event in Blaavands on the westernmost point of the country offers some flat and fast racing with sections on the beach for a long but challenging event.

The course has recently been updated with a 51km loop which needs to be done twice for the men over 60 and women over 50 while all younger age groups need to complete three laps. With the start loop included, it will be a long race of respectively 160 and 110km.

Looking at the profile, it looks as if the course will have high average speeds, but the terrain has some soft gravel which demands power from the riders. Also, the wind will be important as the course is designed close to the sea with hardly any coverage from dunes or mountains.

Kasper Asgreen and Niki Terpstra top the start list with 730 riders from 23 different nationalities representing Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, South Africa, Iceland, Spain, Australia, Poland, Ireland, USA, Switzerland, Canada, France, Lithuania, Italy, Brazil and Colombia.
