The Welsh qualifier spread over two days this weekend had a solo win in both the women elite, racing on Saturday and the men elite on Sunday.
Jenson Young got away from two compatriots during the second of two laps in Llyn Brenig to take his first UCI gravel win. Thomas Armstrong finished second and Olie Boarer got third. The three got away during the first lap with a 1m20 lead to a large group behind passing the finish line halfway the race. Young finally finished with a 1 minute lead to Armstrong and Boarer. Brent Clé was the best of the following group.
In the women elite race, taking place on Saturday together with all men age groups over 50, Noémie Thomson soloed to the victory with 1m24 to a group of three from which Abi Smith outsprinted American Morgan Aguirre and Elizabeth Hermolle.
In the two remaining weeks, the last qualifiers take place in France and the US followed by a final weekend with races in Spain and the European Championships in Italy.
