Brendan Johnston and Talia Appleton impressive in Gravelista

The city of Seymour in Victoria (Australia) was host of the last qualifier event in 2024 on a new course.

In the men elite race, national champion Brendan Johnston, winner of Seven, the other Australian qualifier in May, impressed with a 44 seconds win ahead of Tasman Nankervis with Luke Burns finishing as third at 5 minutes. The three broke away early in the race and “Trekky” finally managed to get rid of his opponents in the final 8km to win solo after 135km.

The women elite race brought a clear win for Talia Appleton, the 2023 Oceania continental junior champion who rode her second gravel race. National gravel champion and last year’s winner Courtney Sherwell finished as second 10 minutes behind Appleton with Cassia Boglio as third at 13 minutes.

In the shorter 95km race, counting as qualifier distance for the older categories, the win was for Gregory Ball in the Men 60-64 with jenny Pettenon winning her women 50-54 category.
