The first edition of the southern German UCI gravel race in Singen showed a challenging mountain course with long and steep climbs but also some fast sections and technical downhills.
The race organizers were forced to reduce the race distance due to heavy rainshowers and floodings in the days before the event, but the 104km race remained hard enough to crown the best riders in each category.
Bora Hansgrohe’s Jonas Koch (GER) got away from an elite group and kept on having a small 20-30 seconds gap for most of the last lap towards a small group from which cyclocross rider Daan Soete (BEL) managed to take second place at 38 seconds outsprinting Petr Vakoc (CZE).
Also the female race proved a tight and hard battle between two Germans with the national champion Carolin Schiff beating her compatriot Janine Schneider on the line in the city center of Singen while Dutch Maaike Coljé finished third at almost one minute.
