The inaugural UCI Gravel race in Austria, held over the weekend in Velden-am-Woerthersee, proved to be an astounding success. The event boasted a challenging course that showcased the breathtaking beauty of at the Woerthersee lake.
Months of anticipation culminated in a remarkable achievement as the organizers made the strategic decision to cap participation at 1200 riders for this inaugural edition. Their foresight proved prescient as the event sold out a full month before the starting gun sounded.
With an impressive time of 04:00:23.3, Austrian Sebastian Schönberger secured the first place at the debut edition of the Wörthersee Gravel Race. Second place goes to Paul Voß from Germany. The third-place spot is claimed by Belgian Daan Soete.
The fastest woman, with a time of 04:28:36.3, is Giada Borghesi from Italy, followed by Geerike Schreurs from the Netherlands. Third place goes to Carolin Schiff from Germany.
With this event, the 2024 TREK UCI Gravel World Series has been launched leading up to the UCI Gravel World Championships which will take place in between Halle and Leuven (Belgium) later in October.
