The last qualifier of the Trek UCI Gravel World Series this past Sunday in Ponts, Catalonia, Spain offered the longest course distance of the whole series with all riders competing in the 166km Large course, most of them keen on qualifying for worlds on 8-9 October in Italy.
A total of 30 different nationalities showed up at the start in the Roca del Call Park in Ponts for a course with 2000m of elevation.
Carlos Verona (Movistar) won the race with 2m20 to mountainbiker Jose Maria Sanchez Ruiz who beated former pro Daniel Moreno in the sprint for second place.
Marta Romeu Solaz (Team Farto – BTC) was the first female with a large 20 minutes gap to the second female in the race, British Danielle Shrosbree with her compatriot Hayley Simmonds as overall third.
The average speed of Carlos Verona as overall winners was 34.7 km/h while Marta Romeu Solaz completed the same distance in an average speed of 30.2 km/h.
