The 2026 edition of the Bolero Leuven Legacy Gravel will welcome a record field of more than 2,100 participants this Sunday, making it one of the largest gravel events in Europe. The event is also the first qualification race for the 2027 UCI Gravel World Championships in France.
The men’s race features an impressive mix of road stars and gravel specialists. One of the most anticipated names on the start line is former Belgian road champion Arnaud De Lie, who will make a rare appearance in a major gravel competition.
De Lie will face strong opposition from established gravel racers including Lukas Malezsewski, overall winner of the 2026 UCI Gravel World Series, former Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet, Floris De Tier, Kevin Panhuyzen, Mats Omloop, Jordan Habets, Pierre Gautherat and local favourite Lander Loockx.
The women’s race is equally competitive, led by reigning Belgian Gravel Champion Nathalie Bex. Bex will take on international rivals Romy Kasper (Germany) and Maaike Coljé (Netherlands). Belgian contenders Lotte Claes, Hanne Van Loock and Floor Van Elsacker further strengthen a highly competitive field.
World Champions and Sporting Legends Among the Age Groups
Beyond the elite races, spectators can expect plenty of star power in the age-group categories. Former world road champion Philippe Gilbert and former Belgian international footballer Jelle Van Damme headline a field packed with experienced athletes.
First Step on the Road to France 2027
With qualification spots for the 2027 UCI Gravel World Championships at stake, Sunday’s competition carries added significance. Riders across all categories will be chasing not only victory in Leuven but also an opportunity to secure their place at the world’s most prestigious gravel event next season.
