The 4th edition of Gravelista, as first Australian qualifier for the 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships on homeground, took place under very tough weather conditions. Unlike past years with sunny skies, this year’s race was cold, rainy, and muddy. Riders had to push through slippery roads and freezing temperatures.
In the men’s elite race, Brendon Johnston renewed his win from last year in Seymour (VIC). He beat Mark O’Brien, the national gravel champion, in a sprint after the 135 kilometers challenge. They were 1 minute and 16 seconds ahead of Kevin Biffiger, who came in third. Tasman Nankervis finished fourth, and Aston Key was fifth, 2 minutes and 33 seconds behind the winner.
In the women’s elite race, Sharlotte Lucas from New Zealand took her first win at Gravelista. She rode strongly and finished with a big lead of 3 minutes and 21 seconds ahead of Sophie Byrne, who came second. Ella Bloor finished third, more than 7 minutes behind Lucas. The top five women were completed by Karla Bell in fourth and Brianna Samuhel in fifth.
