The African Continental Gravel Championships were held for the first time this weekend in Namibia and also doubled as UCI qualifier for the upcoming World Championships, taking place in 7 weeks in the Netherlands.
In the men elite race, the reigning Namibian national road and time trial champion Alex Miller won the 155km race, a bit more than a minute to South African Marc Pritzen after an attack with 9 kilometers to go. Another South African Jaco Van Dyck got third at 3m46.
The women elite win and African title was for South African Hayley Preen who escaped in the second half of the race to win 3m24 ahead of Anri Greeff from Namibia and 16 minutes ahead of South African Sonica Klopper.
