Mammoth TUFF is a new event in California (USA) that was organised for the first time in 2019 by David Sheek and Amanda Nauman, double winner of Unbound.
Course
The 2025 courses of the event will be finalised and released a few weeks ahead. Below are the 2024 details.
There are three distances : 40-70-90 miles from which the short distance isn’t a qualifier distance for the UCI Gravel World Championships. The 70 miles counts as qualifier for the men over 60 and women over 50 while the 90 miles is the official qualifier distance for all younger categories.
In the 90 miles course, riders head out of Mammoth Lakes on a paved section for the first 5 miles, followed by a first gravel section (miles 5-16) and a second paved section (miles 16-31) to go east to the lowest point on course. The second half back to the finish with also a mix of gravel and asphalt.
63% of the course is gravel, 37% paved.
The shorter 70miles course is skipping the eastern part of the course but also has some different tracks in the beginning.
90 miles (qualifier men 19-59 and women 19-49)
70 miles (qualifier men 60+ and women 50+)
Profile
With a total elevation of 7410 feet (2250m), it’s a challenging course on a rough terrain with some steep climbs.
The hardest part of the course comes right after the halfway point where riders start a 16 miles climb at 4.3% average with especially the narrow Red Rock Canyon climb between 52-54 miles.
The shorter 70 miles course has 3933 feet of elevation which is bypassing the hard eastern part of the long course.
