66 Degrés Sud – Pyrenees Catalanes Gravel Tour is a new Gravel event in the French Pyrenees organised by the team behind the very successful 66 Degrés Sud – Le Cyclo which is part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series since 2022.
Course
Two challenging courses are available: a demanding 100km route, serving as a qualifier for all young categories, and a shorter 70km option designed for men over 60 and women over 50.
Both races begin in the heart of Les Angles, setting off from Avenue de Mont-Louis.
From its starting point at an altitude of 1600m in Les Angles, the circuit plunges riders into the stunning Catalan Pyrenees. Traversing the foothills of the surrounding mountains, particularly in the Capcir and Cerdagne regions, the route winds its way towards iconic landmarks. Riders will pass by the Formiguères ski resort, the serene Lac de Matemale, and the picturesque Lac Calvet, reaching a peak altitude of nearly 2000m.
Profile
With an elevation of 1700m, the course is challenging and situated in between 1600 and 2000m above sea level in the French Pyrenees. There are three major climbs : a first one in between km 7-10, a second longer one between km 50-55 and a last one between km 88-93.
The shorter 70km course has 1300m of elevation and skips the eastern part of the course to make a shortcut and return faster to the finish.
